ADOT is committed to keeping the public informed of upcoming closures with as much notice as possible.

Several upcoming restrictions and closures are planned for construction of I-17 improvements for installation of final signage, as well as for widening work north of Jomax Road. Please see below for information about restriction dates, times and alternate routes.
 
Continued lane and ramp restrictions will be needed to complete the remainder of the I-17 improvements.

Drivers should expect delays when traveling on I-17 while the following restrictions are in place and are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible.

CURRENT RESTRICTIONS AND CLOSURES

Union Hills Drive at I-17
Thursday, Nov. 19
8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The northbound frontage road will be restricted to one left turn lane onto Union Hills Drive on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for work on the I-17 widening project. This will also require restricting the left turn lane from westbound Union Hills Drive onto southbound I-17.

I-17 at Pinnacle Peak Road
Thursday, Nov. 19 - Friday, Nov. 20
9:30 p.m. - 5 a.m.
The northbound I-17 on-ramp at Pinnacle Peak Road will be CLOSED overnight from Thursday night until Friday morning for work on the I-17 widening project. Detour: Traffic can take the northbound frontage road to Happy Valley Road to access northbound I-17.

I-17 at Happy Valley Road
Thursday, Nov. 19 - Friday, Nov. 20
9:30 p.m. - 5 a.m.
The northbound I-17 off-ramp at Happy Valley Road will be CLOSED overnight from Thursday night until Friday morning for work on the I-17 widening project. Detour: Traffic can exit at Pinnacle Peak Road and use the northbound frontage road to access Happy Valley Road.

I-17 at Jomax Road
Thursday, Nov. 19
10 p.m. – 12 a.m. (Midnight)
The northbound I-17 on-ramp from Jomax Road will be CLOSED late Thursday night for work on the I-17 widening project. Detour: Traffic can use the southbound frontage road to Happy Valley Road to access northbound I-17.

I-17 between Jomax Road and Carefree Highway
Thursday, Nov. 19 – Friday, Nov. 20
10 p.m. – 5 a.m.
Northbound I-17 will be restricted to one lane overnight from Thursday night until Friday morning, Nov. 20 between Jomax Road and Carefree Highway for work on the I-17 widening project.

I-17 between Pinnacle Peak and Happy Valley roads

10 p.m. - 5 a.m.
Northbound I-17 will be restricted to one lane overnight between Pinnacle Peak and Happy Valley roads from Thursday night until Friday morning for work on the I-17 widening project.

I-17 at Dixileta Drive
Friday, Nov. 20
12 a.m. (Midnight) – 2 a.m.
The northbound I-17 off-ramp at Dixileta Drive will be CLOSED early Friday morning, Nov. 20 for work on the I-17 widening project. Detour: Drivers may exit at Happy Valley or Jomax roads and use the northbound frontage road to access Dixileta Drive.

I-17 between Carefree Highway and Pioneer Road
Friday, Nov. 20 – Sunday, Nov. 22
10 p.m. – 6 a.m.
Sunday, Nov. 22 – Monday, Nov. 23
10 p.m. – 5 a.m.
I-17 will be restricted to one lane in each direction nightly from Friday night until Monday morning from Carefree Highway to Pioneer Road for work on the I-17 widening project.

I-17 at Yorkshire Drive
Monday, Nov. 23 – Wednesday, Nov. 25
3 a.m. – 5 a.m.
The northbound I-17 on-ramp at Yorkshire Drive will be CLOSED nightly Monday through Wednesday from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. for work on the I-17 widening project. Detour: Traffic can take 27th Avenue north to Deer Valley Road to access northbound I-17.

I-17 from Union Hills Drive to Loop 101
Monday, Nov. 23 –  Wednesday, Nov. 25
10 p.m. - 5 a.m.
Northbound I-17 will be restricted to one lane nightly from Monday night until Wednesday morning from Union Hills Drive to Loop 101 for work on the I-17 widening project.

I-17 at Loop 101
Monday, Nov. 23 – Wednesday, Nov. 25
10 p.m. - 5 a.m.
The ramps from northbound I-17 to Loop 101 will be CLOSED nightly from Monday night until Wednesday morning for work on the widening project.  Northbound I-17 traffic can exit at Union Hills Drive and use 19th Avenue to access Loop 101.

I-17 between Happy Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads
Monday, Nov. 23 – Wednesday, Nov. 25
10 p.m. - 5 a.m.
Southbound I-17 will be restricted to one lane nightly from Monday night until Wednesday morning for work on the I-17 widening project.

I-17 at Carefree Highway
Closed through December 2009
Both the northbound loop off-ramp and the southbound loop on-ramp at Carefree Highway are CLOSED for work related to the I-17 widening project. During the closure, drivers may use the other diamond interchange ramps.

I-17 at Dixileta Drive
Closed through November 2009
The southbound on-ramp at Dixileta Drive is CLOSED for work related to the I-17 widening project. During the closure, drivers can use the frontage road to other ramps at Jomax and Happy Valley roads.

I-17 at Jomax Road
Closed through November 2009
The southbound off-ramp at Jomax Road is CLOSED for work related to the I-17 widening project. During the closure, drivers can use the frontage road to other ramps at Jomax and Happy Valley roads.
      

Drivers should anticipate delays and allow extra time, or adjust travel to avoid closures and restrictions. ADOT appreciates your patience as we construct improvements on I-17.

While ADOT and its construction contractors strive to inform the public about planned freeway restrictions, during any complex construction project, there is always a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. During I-17 construction, plan ahead for unexpected restrictions - and remember to slow down in the work zone. The speed limit on I-17 has been reduced to 55 mph from Happy Valley Road to Carefree Highway for the project duration. The speed limit on the frontage roads has been reduced to 25 mph. The reduced speed limits are intended to protect you and your passengers, other drivers and workers in the construction zone.
