The current Closures & Restrictions are provided in audio format.  Previous versions are available.

Several closures and restrictions are planned on I-17 and Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) for construction of I-17 improvements.

Here's an overview of scheduled restrictions and closures for Interstate 17 projects:

Interstate 17 from Happy Valley Road to Jomax Road
Monday, July 7 – Wednesday, July 9
9 p.m. – 5 a.m.
I-17 from Happy Valley to Jomax roads will be restricted to one lane in each direction, from Monday night until Wednesday morning, to allow the contractor to relocate temporary concrete barriers and apply traffic lane striping.

Interstate 17 at Happy Valley Road
Monday, July 7 – summer 2008
Beginning at 9 p.m.
On Monday, July 7, starting at 9 p.m., the northbound I-17 on-ramp and the southbound I-17 off-ramp at Happy Valley Road are scheduled to be closed for approximately two months for construction of new interchange ramps at this location. During the closure, traffic can use the one way frontage roads between Happy Valley and Jomax roads to enter and exit I-17 at the new Jomax Road interchange ramps, which will open prior to the ramp closures at Happy Valley Road. Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) from 27th to 23rd avenues
Monday, July 7 – Wednesday, July 9
9 p.m. – 5 a.m.
Eastbound Loop 101 from 27th to 23rd avenues will be closed nightly from Monday night until Wednesday morning for work related to the I-17 widening project. Loop 101 traffic will be detoured onto the 27th Avenue off-ramp and will use the eastbound frontage road to re-enter Loop 101 at 19th Avenue. Emergency vehicle access will be provided.

Interstate 17 from Carefree Highway (State Route 74) to Dixileta Drive
Tuesday, July 8 – Friday, July 11
10 p.m. – 5 a.m.
Friday, July 11 – Saturday, July 12
9 p.m. – 7 a.m.
Southbound I-17 will be restricted to one lane nightly from Tuesday night until the morning of Saturday, July 12 to set temporary concrete barriers for work on the I-17 widening project.

Interstate 17 at Carefree Highway (State Route 74)
Tuesday, July 8 – Friday, July 11
10 p.m. – 5 a.m.
Northbound I-17 will be closed at Carefree Highway nightly from Tuesday night until Friday morning for bridge work at the Carefree Highway Interchange. I-17 traffic will be detoured onto the on- and off-ramps at Carefree Highway during the closure. During the same time periods, southbound I-17 will be restricted to one lane at Carefree Highway.

Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) from 23rd to 27th avenues
Wednesday, July 9 - Friday, July 11 
9 p.m. - 5 a.m.
Westbound Loop 101 from 23rd to 27th avenues will be closed overnight from Wednesday night until Friday morning for work related to the I-17 widening project. Loop 101 westbound traffic will be detoured onto the 19th Avenue off-ramp and will use the westbound frontage road to re-enter Loop 101 at 27th Avenue. Emergency vehicle access will be provided. The ramps from westbound Loop 101 to I-17 will be open during the closure.

ONGOING RESTRICTIONS AND CLOSURES

Interstate 17 at Yorkshire/Union Hills drives
Saturday, June 21 – mid 2009
Beginning June 21, the southbound I-17 exit ramp at Union Hills Drive/Yorkshire Drive will be closed until mid 2009 while the bridges on I-17 are widened at this location to accommodate additional lanes. During the ramp closure, traffic can exit at Deer Valley Road and travel south on 27th Avenue to Yorkshire, then continue to Union Hills Drive as an alternate route. View map

Interstate 17 at Utopia Road
Saturday, June 28 – mid 2009
On June 28, the northbound I-17 entrance ramp at Utopia Road is scheduled to be closed until mid 2009 for the construction of new bridges on I-17 to accommodate additional lanes. Traffic can use 23rd or 27th Avenue north to Deer Valley Road to access I-17 northbound. This closure will require the closure of the northbound I-17 off-ramp at Rose Garden Lane, as well as the ramps from northbound I-17 to Loop 101. Traffic can exit at Utopia Road and travel north on 23rd Avenue to access Loop 101, Rose Garden Lane or Deer Valley Road. View map

Interstate 17 from Yorkshire to Union Hills drives
The southbound I-17 entrance between Yorkshire and Union Hills drives has been permanently closed as part of the widening project. Traffic on the southbound frontage road will continue south to Union Hills Drive to access the southbound I-17 on-ramp. View map

Interstate 17 south of Yorkshire Drive
Through mid August 2008
The southbound I-17 frontage road will be restricted to one lane just south of Yorkshire Drive for approximately three months for work related to the I-17 widening project.

Interstate 17 at Deer Valley Road
The northbound I-17 off-ramp at Deer Valley Road is permanently closed to improve traffic flow on I-17 near the system interchange with Loop 101. Northbound I-17 traffic will exit at Rose Garden lane and use the northbound frontage road to access Deer Valley Road. Ramps from Loop 101 will provide access to either northbound I-17 or Deer Valley Road as part of the completed project in 2009. View map

In addition, the southbound I-17 loop entrance ramp at Deer Valley Road is closed for construction. Drivers can use the additional southbound I-17 entrance ramp at this location. During reconstruction of the interchange, drivers can use 19th, 27th or 35th avenues to access Loop 101 from Deer Valley Road. View map

While ADOT and its construction contractors strive to inform the public about planned freeway restrictions, during any complex construction project, there is always a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. During I-17 construction, plan ahead for unexpected restrictions – and remember to slow down in the work zone. The speed limit on I-17 has been reduced to 45 mph from Happy Valley Road to Carefree Highway for the project duration. The speed limit on the frontage roads has been reduced to 25 mph. The reduced speed limits are intended to protect you and your passengers, other drivers and workers in the construction zone.
