Construction of I-17 improvements between Loop 101 and SR 74 (Carefree Highway) is concluding. Here’s an overview of the projects and their anticipated completion dates:
Construction Timeframes
Spring 2007 - 2008
- New interchanges at Jomax Road and Dixileta Drive (completed)
Summer 2007 - Fall 2008
- Reconstruct existing interchange at Carefree Highway (completed)
Winter 2007 - Spring 2010
- Addition of new lanes from Loop 101 to Jomax Road (completed)
(one general purpose lane, one HOV lane) - lanes opened to traffic in late 2009* (completed)
- Deer Valley Road interchange improvements - completed late 2009
Spring 2008 - Spring 2010
- Addition of lanes from Jomax Road to Carefree Highway
(one general purpose, one HOV lane) - lanes opened to traffic in late 2009*
- New interchange at Lone Mountain Road
(future connection to Loop 303)
Late 2008 - Early 2010
- New interchange at Dove Valley Road/Sonoran Boulevard (completed)
Summer 2009 - Spring 2010
- Add general purpose lane from Carefree Highway to Anthem Way - lanes opened to traffic in early 2010*
All remaining I-17 improvement projects under way from Loop 101 to the Carefree Highway are scheduled to be complete in spring 2010.
* Some remaining work will continue along this stretch of I-17 through spring 2010 for final lane striping, signage, application of rubberized asphalt, completion of the interchange work at Lone Mountain Road and other items. The application of rubberized asphalt pavement on the new lanes between Jomax Road and Anthem Way - as well as the existing lanes between Anthem Way and New River Road - is being done in April and May when temperatures warm up enough for the asphalt to cure properly.
