Project Overview

The Ray Road Bridge spans over I-10, bordering the cities of Phoenix and Chandler. The Ray Road Bridge Widening Project will improve the traffic interchange by: expanding the bridge to three through lanes in each direction; adding dual left turn lanes; adding a new right turn lane to enter I-10; adding new retaining walls; improving traffic signage; improving lane striping; landscaping; and the installation of a video detection system to improve traffic management.

The project began in September 2006, and is scheduled to conclude in the fall of 2007. As a continuing effort to partner with local governments and area stakeholders, ADOT has accommodated requests including:

  • Keeping two lanes open in each direction on Ray Road during peak travel hours.
  • Allowing temporary closures and traffic restrictions only between 9pm and 5am.
  • Allowing closures of I-10 only between the hours of 10pm and 5am.
  • Not allowing traffic restrictions during the holiday season (November 17 to January 2).
  • Providing visible traffic signage during work hours.
  • Minimizing the closures of I-10.

Public and Community Outreach
Prior to project construction, ADOT representatives visited area businesses to deliver project and contact information. Email notifications continue to be sent to stakeholders, ensuring the most up to date information regarding construction is conveyed. Additionally, at the onset of the project, a public open house was held for residents and business owners. The communication network that was established at the project’s onset is utilized to its full extent to provide regular traffic and construction updates.

If you wish to receive future construction updates regarding the I-10 (Maricopa Freeway) Ray Road Bridge Widening Project please complete the Comment Form and we will add you to future outreach efforts.
