Red Mountain Freeway Projects

Project: Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) - State Route 51 to Loop 101

Description:
- Widening the freeway by adding one lane in specific areas and paving the additional lane with rubberized asphalt to reduce traffic noise.
- 21 bridges will be widened.
- Existing retaining walls will be relocated to the outside of the widened roadway.
- Traffic noise impacts will be evaluated and sound barriers will be installed where warranted.
- Adjustments to ramp meters, cameras, messages signs, signing, pavement marking and lighting.

Schedule:
- Initial design concept report - Fall 2006
- Draft environmental study - Fall 2006
- Final design concept report - Early 2007
- Final environmental study - Early 2007
- Preliminary design plans for construction (30% complete) - Fall 2007
- Design plans for construction - 2008
- Construction begins - 2009

 

Project: Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) Loop 101 to Gilbert Road

Description: Construction of HOV lanes

Project: Loop 202 Power Road to University Drive

Description: Construction of final piece of Red Mountain Freeway

Description: Construction of the segment

- Construction is well underway
- Completion - Summer 2007

 

Project: Loop 202/US 60 "Super Red Tan" Interchange

Description:
- Construction of the freeway-to-freeway ramps connecting the Superstition, Red Mountain and Santan Freeways.
- Building the section of Loop 202 between Baseline Road and Southern Avenue.
- Adding lanes to US 60 between Power and Crismon roads to accommodate the flow of traffic going to or coming from Loop 202.
- Adding sound barriers along US 60 and paving the freeway with rubberized asphalt to reduce traffic noise.
- Adding ramp meters, cameras and message signs to monitor traffic conditions and communicate to drivers.

Schedule:
- Construction is well underway
- Completion - Summer 2007



Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) Projects

Project: Pima Freeway Princess Drive to Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway)

Description:
- Construction of HOV Lanes from Princess Drive to Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway).
- Add HOV lane in each direction within current median and building a concrete barrier to replace existing cable barrier.
- Design and construction of ramp meters, cameras and message signs.

Schedule:
- Start design plans for construction - May 2006
- Construction begins - late Spring 2007



Loop 101 (Price Freeway) Projects

Project: Loop 101 (Price Freeway)/Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) to Baseline Road

Description:
- Construction of HOV Lanes from Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway to Baseline Road.
- Add HOV lane in each direction within current median and constructing a concrete barrier to replace existing cable barrier.

Schedule:
- Start design plans for construction - Summer 2006
- Construction begins - 2008

Project: State Route 51, Shea Boulevard to Loop 101

Description: Construction of HOV lanes from Shea Boulevard to Loop 101

State Route 802 (Williams Gateway Freeway) Project

Project: State Route 802 (Williams Gateway Freeway)/Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) to Meridian Road

Description:
- State Route 802 (Williams Gateway Freeway) is planned to begin at Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) near Hawes Road and would run southeast to Meridian Road. The corridor will continue into Pinal County.

Schedule:
- MAG corridor study - complete
- ADOT design concept report and environmental documentation - begins Fall 2006 (includes that portion in Pinal County)
- Schedule to be determined

State Route 87 (Duthie-Martin Highway) Projects

Project: Forest Boundary - New Four Peaks Road

Description:
- Widening of shoulders, construct turn lanes at median crossovers and construct a new interchange at the Bush Highway with a bridge crossing over State Route 87.

Schedule:
- Final design due - early 2007
- Construction begins - Summer 2007
