Transportation Enhancements

Does your community desire to build pedestrian or bicycle facilities, provide urban beautification, or rehabilitate a train depot? The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) shares your interest in such enhancements and many more!

The Transportation Enhancement (TE) program was developed to enhance surface transportation activities by developing projects that go above and beyond what transportation departments typically do.

This web site is intended to guide sponsors through the funding application and project development process. The needed guidance to apply for and develop an enhancement project is available on this web site. Additional guidance is available in the (revised March 2008) Transportation Enhancement Program Handbook.

The estimated annual TE funds available to Arizona are currently about $12 million per year. The ADOT Transportation Enhancement and Scenic Roads Section administers this federally funded program through the FHWA.

The application cycle for the Round 17 Year has begun. To apply for a TE project, the Round 17 Project Application is required.

The TE program was made possible by Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA), reauthorized

in 1998 under the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21), and SAFETEA-LU re-authorization by the current U.S. congressional session.
