| ADOT office of Roadway Drainage primarily performs the following functions: |

Provide project specific support to design teams of all projects on the ADOT Five-year transportation program, by performing in-house designs and conducting technical reviews. |
|
Provide guidance and direction to consultants and outside entities involved with drainage design activities for ADOT, to enable compliance with applicable policy, criteria and procedures. |
|
Participate in the statewide encroachments permitting process by reviewing the accompanying drainage designs and ramifications. |
|
Provide support to local government agencies by reviewing designs performed by the agencies and their consultants, for Federal-Aid projects administered by the state. |
|
Coordinate with local flood control agencies and FEMA, in support of the National Flood Insurance Program. |
|
Coordinate ADOT drainage activities with federal agencies and all municipalities, which are stakeholders to the National Highway System. |
|
Maintain a Library of drainage reports of all projects on the state highway system. |
|
Provide drainage specialty support to the ADOT Environmental
Planning Group, EPG, to foster the goals and mandates of the US Environmental
Protection Agency, EPA. |
|
Participate in special projects on notice, in support of maintenance activities during flood emergencies statewide. |
|
Provide basic hydrology and hydraulic training to ADOT personnel doing drainage design work. |
|
Assist in the planning stages by contributing to freeways and highways corridor pre-design studies, from conception to implementation of the design alternatives and beyond. |
|
Participate in research activities as panel members when required at the national Transportation Research Board (TRB) and NCHRP |
