The following are frequently asked questions about the US 93/ US 60 Wickenburg Bypass:
What will be the speed limit in front of businesses on the south side of the new bridge when the project is complete? It is currently 30 MPH.
The speed limit will remain 30 mph reducing to 25 mph just prior to the bridge.
When will land adjacent to the construction zone be available for purchase?
Excess Parcels are generally not available for disposal (sale) until after all construction on the project is complete. However - it is not known at this time what parcels - if any - will be sold. This will most likely be determined after construction is complete.
What access points (driveways) will be approved for parcels on the south side of the new bridge?
This parcel will have no accesses approved from US 60 due to the following:
It was purchased by ADOT as Access Control Right of Way – meaning no access ispermitted.
Much of the parcel’s frontage is taken up by new guardrail for the bridge and a new sidewalk under the bridge to access the pedestrian bridge starts across this parcel.
Will the current eastbound left turn lane remain in the final configuration to the south of the new bridge?
Yes
Will there be crosswalks on Wickenburg Way for pedestrians using the new pedestrian bridge in the final configuration?
There will be new crosswalks at Kerkes St on the west side of the river to provide access from both sides of Wickenburg Way to the Pedestrian Bridge
There will be a sidewalk from the Pedestrian Bridge under the new Hassayampa River Bridge to provide access back to the sidewalk in front of McDonald’s.
How will the restoration of existing landscaping in front of his business be handled after construction of Wickenburg Way?
ADOT will do its best to minimize disturbance to only the necessary work area across the business frontage – however, if private landscaping is within the existing ADOT Right of Way, it the responsibility of the property owner to remove what they want salvaged prior to construction and replace after construction is complete. Our plans call only for seeding the disturbed areas within existing ADOT Right of Way in this area with a native seed mix.
Can speed bumps be installed to slow down traffic?
To our knowledge, speed bumps have never been installed on State Highways and will not be considered in this current construction zone.
Can improvements be made to crosswalks to help enforce the 25 mph speed limit?
Although there is an intersection with a local street at US 60/Wickenburg Way, there are no traffic signals. There have been numerous studies regarding the undesirability of mid-block crosswalks. US 60 has four lanes at this location with parking on both sides of the street and carries over 20,000 vehicles per day. Drivers typically do not expect to encounter a crosswalk at this location (or similar locations on state highways) - no matter how well marked.
In many cases, crosswalks can give pedestrians a false sense of security (they expect that drivers will automatically stop just because there are lines on the pavement).
A crosswalk is implied at all intersections whether marked or not. Removing the painted lines would not eliminate the legal crosswalk and studies actually show that unmarked crosswalks are safer for pedestrians than marked crosswalks.
Enforcement of the 25 mph speed limit is under the Wickenburg Police Department's jurisdiction.
