Overnight bridge work on Interstate 17 at Cordes Junction next week

Northbound lanes closed Tuesday and Wednesday nights; southbound lanes closed Thursday night

The following late night closures and restrictions will be in place on Interstate 17 at Cordes Junction next week as crews work on the new bridge at Arcosanti Road and install an overhead sign structure on State Route 69, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation:

Tuesday, Oct. 23

  • The northbound lanes of I-17 will be closed at the Arcosanti bridge from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Northbound traffic will be shifted to the new off and on ramps at the bridge to allow crews to remove construction forms from the bridge.
  • Southbound drivers on SR 69 will be shifted onto Copper Star Road and then back onto the southbound I-17 on-ramp as crews install an overhead sign between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 24

  •  The northbound lanes of I-17 will be closed at the Arcosanti bridge from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Northbound traffic will be shifted to the new off and on   ramps at the bridge to allow crews to remove construction forms from the bridge.
  • Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. as crews place temporary concrete barriers along the roadway.
  •  Drivers on the southbound I-17 on-ramp from SR 69 will be directed by flaggers as crews place temporary concrete barriers between 8 p.m. and    midnight.

Thursday, Oct. 25

  • The southbound lanes of I-17 will be closed at the Arcosanti bridge from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. as crews remove forms from the bridge. Southbound traffic  will be shifted to the new off and on ramps at the bridge.

Drivers are encouraged to adjust their travel schedules in order to avoid the closures or allow extra time to reach their destinations.The work is part of a $50 million project to reconstruct the I-17/SR 69 traffic interchange.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
