Interstate 17 will be closed up to 30 minutes at Cordes Junction Wednesday night

Traffic in both directions will be stopped twice between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m.

March 7, 2013

A full closure of Interstate 17 for up to 30 minutes will be necessary during the late night hours on Wednesday, March 13 between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. to allow crews to install light poles on the roadway at the Cordes Junction traffic interchange, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Work will require the following restrictions both daytime and overnight:

Monday, March 11 through Thursday, March 14 (Daytime restrictions):

  • I-17 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. to allow crews to paint the remaining bridges throughout the project.
  • Shoulder closures on I-17, in both directions, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. to allow crews to install permanent signage and seed the work zone.

Monday, March 11 through Thursday, March 14 (Overnight restrictions):

  • Drivers can expect alternating lane restrictions on I-17 in both directions between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. to allow crews to pave the shoulders, re-stripe the roadway and install light poles.

Friday, March 15:

  • Shoulder closures on I-17, in both directions, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. to allow crews to install permanent signage and seed the work zone.

Drivers are encouraged to adjust their travel schedules in order to avoid the closures during those hours or allow extra travel time to reach their destination. The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage.

ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
