Paving underway on Interstate 10 at new State Route 90 overpass near Benson

Travel restrictions, including ramp closures, in effect today and tomorrow

October 9, 2012

The Arizona Department of Transportation is paving the new overpass bridge on Interstate 10 at State Route 90 near Benson this week.

The left lane of eastbound I-10 approaching SR 90 (Exit 302) is closed until 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 9 to allow crews to remove a temporary construction detour. The exit and entrance ramps at I-10 and SR 90 also are closed for paving until 6 p.m. today.

During the closures, eastbound I-10 motorists can exit at Ocotillo Road (Exit 304) and take westbound I-10 to the SR 90 exit. Oversized loads must exit at Pomerene Road (Exit 306) to access westbound I-10.

The exit and entrance ramps on westbound I-10 at SR 90 will be closed from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 10 for paving. Alternating lane closures will be in effect on westbound I-10 approaching the overpass during those same hours.

On Wednesday, westbound I-10 motorists wishing to access SR 90 will be detoured to Mescal Road (Exit 297) so that they can enter eastbound I-10 to access SR 90 during work hours.

Starting Thursday, October 11, crews will begin paving a four-mile segment of I-10 in both directions, including the overpass bridge. The I-10 paving is scheduled to start with closure of the right lanes in each direction through Friday, October 12.

Traffic will use the left lanes through the project area and a 55 mph speed limit will be enforced.

On Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13, crews will pave the left lanes in both directions while traffic uses the newly-paved right lanes. The work could potentially continue on Monday, October 15, in necessary.

Hours of operation for the I-10 paving will be 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
