Motorists on Interstate 10 near Benson will encounter left lane closures next week while the Arizona Department of Transportation continues work on replacing the interstate overpass at State Route 90 and reconstructing a segment of highway west of the Cochise County interchange.
Starting Monday (February 27) and continuing through Friday (March 2) the left lanes of both directions of I-10 will be closed from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. to allow crews access to the construction area.
The left lane of eastbound I-10 will be closed beginning one mile west of the junction with SR 90 and the lane will remain closed until approximately one mile east of the interchange.
The left lane of westbound I-10 will be closed starting at the SR 90 traffic interchange and the closure will extend one mile to the west.
The work is part of a $27.6 million project that will replace the overpass, remove a curving section of I-10 west of the interchange (Exit 302) and make improvements to State Route 90.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
