Lane restrictions scheduled for westbound I-10 traffic west of State Route 90
Median lane closed Tuesday, then continuously Wednesday morning through Friday afternoon

February 22, 2011

SAFFORD — Westbound travel on Interstate 10 west of State Route 90 near Benson will be limited to one lane for the next four days while the Arizona Department of Transportation constructs a temporary detour lane at the as part of a project to replace the interchange and remove curves from the highway.

The left lane of westbound I-10 will be closed:

  • Tuesday from 6 a.m. until about 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday from 6 a.m. and continuing through noon on Friday.

The lane closure is to allow crews first to pave the temporary detour, then to remove concrete barriers that have been in place to protect the work area.

The posted speed limit will be 55 miles per hour through the work zone during the closure.

After the temporary lane is completed and the concrete barriers are removed, westbound I-10 traffic will use the detour while ADOT crews realign the highway west of the interchange.

The work is part of a two-year $27.6 million project that also will include replacing the traffic interchange at I-10 and SR 90.

As always, motorists are encouraged to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and be alert of construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
