Construction on new eastbound Interstate 10 lanes near Benson to continue next week

I-10 motorists should plan ahead and expect delays due to lane closures

January 20, 2012

Motorists traveling on Interstate 10 near Benson will encounter lane closures next week while the Arizona Department of Transportation continues construction of new eastbound lanes near the junction with State Route 90.

Lane closures are scheduled for Monday (Jan. 23), Tuesday (Jan. 24) and Friday (Jan. 27) to allow crews to move concrete barriers and remove asphalt from a section of eastbound I-10 next to a newly-constructed temporary detour.

The following closures have been scheduled between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day:

  • Monday (Jan. 23) - the left lane of eastbound I-10 will be closed for one mile just west of the SR 90 overpass (Exit 302) to allow work crews to enter and exit the median during work hours.
  • Tuesday (Jan. 24) - the left lane of eastbound I-10 will be closed for approximately a half-mile starting just east of the interchange with SR 90 to allow work crews to enter and exit the median.
  • Friday (Jan. 27) - the left lane of westbound I-10 will be closed for one mile starting one mile west of SR 90 to allow crews to remove barrier walls from the median.
  • Friday (Jan. 27) - the left lane of eastbound I-10 will be closed for one mile starting at the SR 90 overpass to allow crews to set barriers walls next to the median.

The work is part of the ongoing ADOT project to replace the Interstate 10 overpass at State Route 90, replace a section of curving interstate west of the interchange and make improvements to SR 90 south of the interstate. The $27.6 million project is scheduled for completion in spring 2013.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
