The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will begin the final construction season on the much-anticipated East Flagstaff Traffic Interchange project. Prior to the snowstorms which caused a winter shutdown on the project, the roadway was switched to the current and final configuration. Even with the switch completed and traffic flowing on the new configuration, some work will be required to finish the East Flagstaff Traffic Interchange project.
The work to be completed before the project ends is generally low impact; however, there will be some traffic impacts associated with the project through Fall 2008. The work consists of final paving with rubberized asphalt, the demolition of the old bridge over the BNSF railroad, detention basin excavation, signal work, median construction, and other associated incidental work. The final paving work will install rubberized asphalt onto the road surface, a move which increases safety in all weather conditions and reduces roadway noise. The third and final detention basin will facilitate drainage improvements which enhance drainage throughout the area. Incidental work on the traffic interchange includes pavement repair, striping, and landscaping work throughout the project area.
