The Arizona Technical Testing Institute (ATTI), was established in 1996 for the purpose of raising the professional standards and reliability of materials sampling and testing within the State of Arizona, through technician certification. Subsequently, federal regulations have been established requiring technicians who perform materials sampling and testing to be certified. ATTI certification programs satisfy these requirements.

The purpose of technician certification through ATTI is to ensure that the technician can demonstrate competency in appropriate Arizona and AASHTO test procedures through actual demonstration of test procedures, written examination and required calculations.

The type of certifications offered by ATTI, are as follows:

ATTI Field Technician Certification ~ Field sampling and testing of soils, aggregates, asphaltic concrete, and sampling of asphalt binder.

ATTI Laboratory Soils/Aggregate Technician Certification ~ Laboratory testing of soils and aggregates.

ATTI Asphalt Technician Certification ~ Laboratory sampling and testing of asphaltic concrete mixtures.

The Arizona Technical Testing Institute also recognizes the American Concrete Institute (ACI) certification program for technicians performing sampling and testing activities on Portland cement concrete.

The following ACI Certification is required by all personnel performing Portland Cement Concrete sampling and testing on ADOT projects:

ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician ~ Grade I
