5th Biennial Workshop
was held
April 21-23, 2004, Tucson, AZ


The 5th Biennial Workshop was offered by the Interstate Technical Group on Abandoned Underground Mines (ITGAUM) with a focus on subjects related to the effects of mine development on highway planning, design, construction, maintenance and infrastructure development. Related topics pertaining to sub-structure exploration and geophysical testing, which identify potential hazards associated with abandoned mines was also addressed and relevant case histories were also discussed.

This important transportation-related workshop on abandoned underground mines was co-hosted by the Arizona Department of Transportation, the Arizona State Mine Inspectors Office, and the Arizona Geological Survey and was co-sponsored by both the Federal Highway Administration and the Transportation Research Board.

Conference Site:
The 5th Biennial ITGAUM workshop was held at the Viscount Suite Hotel in mid-town Tucson. Tucson is located in southeastern Arizona Sonora Desert Region within easy access to the Saguaro National Park, the Coronado National Forest and the historic western and mining communities of Tombstone and Bisbee.
