Recovery Act projects produce $60 million in cost savings
More contracts approved today by Transportation Board

August 14, 2009

PHOENIX – What began as a list of 41 shovel-ready projects across Arizona has now progressed into real work along our state’s highways. Seventeen Recovery Act projects are now under construction statewide, and two more have already been completed. The cost savings for all project bids is huge: $60 million is now available to move additional Recovery Act projects forward.

Today more projects were awarded contracts. The State Transportation Board approved seven more contracts for Recovery Act projects during a special telephonic meeting, adding to the 40 contracts that have been already approved.

A total of 51 Recovery Act projects have been advertised to date. Most of these projects have already gone through the bid process, which produced the $60 million cost savings. ADOT is already moving forward on extra projects funded with Recovery Act dollars. Two additional ARRA projects have already been approved for the Maricopa County region. State Route 85 will be widened from Southern Avenue to I-10, and State Route 74 will get passing lanes along a two-mile stretch. More projects will be added statewide.
