Update on SR 89 Widening Project in Prescott area
April 15, 2008
Chino Valley, Arizona: The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will begin construction in June 2008 on State Route (SR) 89 from Center Street to approximately one mile south of Road 4 South.
Improvements to SR 89 are needed to increase the capacity of the highway and also provide better access to and from businesses along the route.
In the next two weeks utility companies will begin relocating utilities along SR 89 in preparation for the roadway construction. Motorists will see utility companies boring under SR 89 to prepare for the installation of new pipes. Following that, other utility companies will relocate poles, wires and cables.
Utility companies will contact property owners to coordinate adjustments to their services, and ADOT personnel will visit businesses along the route to inform them of the upcoming construction and utility work. Utility companies will continue to provide service during relocations activities and any outages are expected to be of short duration.
Once complete, the highway will be four lanes with a raised curb median and curb and gutter. The design will allow for a future third lane in each direction. Improvements will also be made to the intersections of Road 1 South, Road 2 South, and Road 3 South. The Town of Chino Valley Council has also approved a roundabout at the intersection of Road 4 South.
