The Season's Social Events
Capitol Toastmasters members enjoyed the holidays during three social events at the end of 2010: The first under the shelter of a Ramada on the shore of the lake in Kiwanis Park in Tempe; the second, a potluck in the Arizona room at ADOT and finally an area event with three clubs attending ( Capitol, As You Like It and Palm Lane). Although the focus at Capitol Toastmasters is the attainment of better communications and leadership skills, the philosophy of many is to work hard and play hard and we like to have fun while becoming better communicators and leaders.
With this New Year will come new opportunities. The members of Capitol are ready to meet the challenge and make 2011 a great year of accomplishments and memorable times. Although many of our members are from ADOT, we are a diverse group with backgrounds from many areas. We welcome diversity as it makes for more interesting speeches and impromptu talks. That said, we look forward to an exciting new year and invite those who are curious (no matter your background) to stop by and meet with us in a positive and supportive environment that encourages self-confidence and personal growth in the attainment of empowering communications and leadership skills. |

Chairing the Kiwanis Park Social was a bit of challenge at first. Tempe Town Lake was the originally intended venue but we were preempted by the Iron Man Triathlon. This was nothing the Chair (Project Manager in a sense) Murari Pradhan couldn’t handle. Another scenic location on the lake was chosen and the event went on without a hitch. One of the projects that each Capitol Toastmaster member must accomplish in order to complete the Competent Leadership Manual is to Chair at least one event and many times two or more. |

Although we always enjoy each other’s company at Capitol Toastmasters, its always refreshing to view and compare the perspectives of others from other clubs in the Area Social Events, Area and District Speech Competitions and Fall and Spring Conferences. |
